Hefty ban for Crosse at Wetherby

David Crosse was banned for 28 days after dropping his hands and losing a race he should have won on Lost In Normandy at Wetherby.

The nine-year-old, a 15-2 chance, took the final fence several lengths clear of his rivals and looked destined for a comfortable victory in the Jamaica Handicap Chase.

However, Crosse eased down for a few strides after appearing to look at the big screen in front of the stands.

That allowed Kenny Johnson to snatch the spoils on the staying-on Sound Of Cheers (6-1) for Northallerton trainr Fred Kirby.

Crosse tried to get a renewed effort out of his mount, but it was too late and he was beaten half a length.

The stewards found he had failed to ride out for first place and suspended him from January 25 to February 21 inclusive.
