Officials at Kelso were forced to abandon today’s meeting due to frost after temperatures dipped sharply overnight.

Clerk of the course Jonnie Fenwicke-Clennell said: “It’s off – the track is still frozen in places.”

An inspection had been called for 7.15am due to the forecast of sub-zero conditions.

The temperature went down to -6C overnight, and Fenwicke-Clennell decided to take a second look at 10.30am to give the weather a chance to warm up.

But it was later brought forward to 9.45am, when prospects were described as “bleak”, before a subsequent decision was taken to call the fixture off.
