Night Crescendo battled through the rain to score on his first all-weather run in division one of the betfredpoker.com Maiden Auction Stakes at Lingfield.

The 6-4 market leader took the lead rounding the final bend under Ryan Moore to put the result of the mile contest beyond doubt.

The juvenile beat Bomber Command by three-quarters of a length, even though Moore lost his whip and had to ride out hands and heels, with Green Lemon three lengths away in third.

Mark Perrett, assistant to his wife and winning trainer Amanda, said: “That all went to plan, although he ran a bit green and pricked his ears.

“Now we have something to look forward to over the winter and he will be put away now.”
