Gosden buys Newmarket yard
John Gosden is to leave his Manton base this winter and return to training in Newmarket.
The 54-year-old moved from Newmarket to the Sangster Family-owned estate in Wiltshire in 2000 but has purchased Clarehaven Stables on the Bury Road, the yard of the late Alec Stewart.
“In many ways it will be like coming home,” Gosden told the Racing Post.
“I was assistant trainer to Sir Noel Murless in Newmarket in the mid-70s and also trained for 11 years at Stanley House.
“Inevitably it will be sad to leave the special friends with whom we have enjoyed such great times in this part of the world, but we are very fortunate to have a wonderful group of owners who have been very supportive, and many of them are close friends, so I am looking forward to training for them at Newmarket.”
Gosden also spent a number of years in California and brings with him a decent crop of two-year-olds including Fillies’ Mile winner Nannina.
