Tabaret set for Cornwallis mission
Tabaret is a definite runner in the Group Three skybet.com Cornwallis Stakes at Salisbury on Saturday – as long as conditions are suitable.
Leeds trainer Richard Whitaker is hoping for fast ground for the son of Bertolini, who already has a Listed race success to his credit at York in the Roses Stakes at the Ebor meeting.
“He’ll run providing the ground is on the fast side of good,” said Whitaker.
“It’s forecast to be a dry week. I just hope they don’t 10 to 15 millimetres of rain overnight on Friday.
“He’s run twice on softish ground and I’m not going to run him on it again.
“He’s so fast out of the stalls and has got so much speed that if it’s soft, it blunts it.”
Whitaker pulled Tabaret out of the Flying Chiders Stakes at Doncaster on St Leger day as the ground went against him.
Godfrey Street took the honours in that Group Two contest over the minimum trip and Tabaret had beaten him by a short head at York.
Tabaret was switched to Ayr for the Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes, but found the combination of a 5lb penalty and ground on the dead side too much when finishing third to Curtail.
“It was a good run at Ayr. I think the weight beat him in the end,” added Whitaker.
