Arc green light for Mubtaker

Mubtaker has been given the go-ahead to run in Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe thanks to his recent renaissance on the track.

The eight-year-old, runner-up to Dalakhani on his only previous attempt at the Longchamp showpiece in 2003, has delighted connections in recent weeks.

The Silver Hawk entire, trained by Marcus Tregoning, showed he has retained his old ability and all of his enthusiasm by notching up Listed victories at Goodwood and Doncaster before winning the Group Three Cumberland Lodge Stakes on Sunday.

“He’s a fantastic old horse. He’s in great form so why not go for the Arc?” said owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s racing manager Angus Gold.

“We’re not saying he’s good enough to win an Arc but he’s in top form and deserves to take his chance.”

Although Mubtaker has won three Group Twos and two Group Threes, he has yet to strike in four attempts at the highest level.

Tregoning’s charge is a 33-1 shot with both William Hill and Ladbrokes for the Arc.
