Saleem Golam will return to the saddle on Wednesday despite spraining his ankle following a spill at Hamilton yesterday.

The 22-year-old jockey had to give up his remaining ride at the Scottish venue after Maneki Neko slipped up and fell after half a mile in the toteexacta Apprentice Series Handicap.

Golam, who is attached to Mark Tompkins’ yard in Newmarket and has ridden 33 winners this term, was not scheduled to ride today but confirmed the injury was not as bad as first feared.

“It was a bit sore when I was on the way home last night but it’s quite fine now,” he said.

“I was quite shocked when it happened because I thought it was going to be a nasty one. Thankfully the horse fell with me so it wasn’t so bad.

“I rode out this morning and there were no problems so I’ll be back at Lingfield tomorrow.”
