Praise for four-win Spencer
Jamie Spencer was confirmed as top jockey with four winners at the four-day meeting after bringing Bryan Smart's Misu Bond (5-2) home in front in the GNER Conditions Stakes.
Misu Bond, all the better for his debut at York last month, led two furlongs out and stuck to his task well, shaking off the challenges of Charles Darwin and Grantley Adams to score by one and three-quarter lengths.
Smart said: âHe worked well with our recent Listed race winner (Sir Xaar) the other day so I thought we would have a bit of a chance here.
âWe have always liked him and the plan now is to go for the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy. That looks a nice race for him, and it is great for Reg and his son Charlie to have something to look forward to because I think he will go on to better things.â
Spencer added: âWhen Bryan said how the horse had worked at home, I expected a good run from him. He is a very nice horse and he will improve again.â
John Dunlop and Richard Hills had some consolation for Tawqeetâs defeat in the St Leger when Nawaqees (10-1) ran out a game winner of the Earth Mortgages Nursery, holding Creative Mind by half a length.
Dunlopâs representative Gary Hatfield said: âHe was very brave, he had to be in that ground.â
Hills went on to complete a double when he teamed up with his father Barry to win the Trilogy Nightclub Doncaster Stakes on Dubai Success, the 85-40 favourite.
Hills senior said: âIt has been a long time coming for him. The ground is a big factor and he has got a bit of class too.
âMichael (Richardâs twin brother) was going to ride him, but we switched things around and he went to Goodwood where he rode Moss Vale to dead-heat with Ashdown Express.â
