Fractured wrist keeps Kinane out of the saddle
Mick Kinane is set for a spell on the sidelines after breaking his right wrist in a nasty incident at the Curragh yesterday.
The rider, who enjoyed a bumper week at York, was on board Redstone Dancer in the Lanwades & Staffordstown Studs (Fillies) Maiden when the accident occurred around three furlongs out.
Fran Berry’s mount Indian Rite slipped and fell, breaking her leg and bringing down Kinane and Redstone Dancer who were travelling behind.
Both Kinane and Berry, the current leader in the Irish jockeys’ championship, were taken to Blanchardstown Hospital for treatment.
Dr Walter Halley, the Turf Club medical officer, said: “Mick has fractured his right wrist and I gather he went home last night after being treated.
“I will be advised in due course as to how long he will be out and what treatment is needed.”
Berry was initially thought to have fractured his ribs but Halley revealed he has actually damaged his sternum and has been detained in hospital.
“The situation with Fran is that he’s still in hospital,” added Halley. “He has fractured his sternum (breastbone) and again, I will be told by the surgeon what will happen with him.”
