Epsom Classic heroine Eswarah heads 16 fillies left in at the confirmation stage for the Aston Upthorpe Yorkshire Oaks at York on Wednesday.

The Vodafone Oaks victor, trained by Michael Jarvis, is set to try to get back in the winning groove after being unplaced in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes.

She is likely to face strong opposition, including Lancashire Oaks winner Playful Act.

John Gosden’s filly has since finished second to Shawanda in the Irish Oaks when other York acceptors Right Key, Dash To The Top and Thakafaat were fourth, fifth and seventh respectively.

Shawanda’s stable companion Shamdala could represent French trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre.

Peter Schiergen’s Iota is the sole German acceptor while the other three-year-olds are Alumni, Aunt Julia, Favourita, Natalie Jane and Secret History.

The remaining quartet are all four-year-olds – Godolphin’s Punctilious, Hazarista, trained in Ireland by John Oxx, Richard Gibson’s French raider Lune D’Or and Vigata, from Valfredo Valiani’s Italian stable that took this prize with Super Tassa in 2001.
