Lookout for Jardines in Yorkshire Cup
Jardines Lookout is set to return after 556 days off the track in Friday’s Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup.
Alan Jarvis’s eight-year-old gelding missed the entire 2004 season after straining a suspensory ligament, but his trainer reports him to be back in top form.
“He’s in good order, in fact he’s never looked better,” said Jarvis. “He only had a very, very minor problem but we decided not to take any risks with him and gave him a year off.
“We have had him scanned since and it’s perfect – you wouldn’t know there had been anything wrong.”
“He’s done plenty of work and he’s ready for York, but he wouldn’t run if the ground were to turn very soft.”
Jardines Lookout has not run since finishing a highly creditable third to Makybe Diva in the 2003 Melbourne Cup.
Jarvis added: “We will probably head back to York for Royal Ascot and the Gold Cup, then for the Goodwood Cup, and perhaps we could go back to Australia again.”
