Carroll hit with Jockey Club fine
Trainer Declan Carroll has been fined £3,500 (€5,098) by the Jockey Club over the running and riding of Pearl Fisher at Wolverhampton.
Carroll and jockey Neil Brown were called to appear before the disciplinary panel following a review by the Jockey Club’s monitoring system into Pearl Fisher’s performance in the Labourforce Services Handicap on February 12.
The filly, making her British debut after being trained in Ireland by Martin Browne, finished ninth of 11 runners, beaten about nine lengths at 66-1.
Carroll, who is based near York, was found guilty of breaching rule 155 (ii) in relation to the instructions given to the rider.
Brown, a 7lb claimer, was judged to have broken rule 157 – the non-triers’ rule – in that he failed to obtain the best possible placing with the intention of concealing the horse’s ability or affecting the result of the race.
As well as Carroll’s £3,500 fine, Pearl Fisher was banned from running for 40 days and Brown was disqualified for 28 days.
Brown, who is now with Keith Reveley, does not currently hold a licence, but he cannot race-ride during his disqualified period, although he is still allowed to work in a yard.
