Big crowd for Gold Cup day
A massive crowd of 66,767 basked in glorious sunshine on the final afternoon of the new-look four-day Cheltenham Festival.
The attendance on each of the first three days had been down compared with last year’s meeting, but the summer weather brought racegoers out in their droves on totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup day.
The total for the meeting was 231,000, which was 35,000 up on last year’s three-day Festival.
The track’s managing director, Edward Gillespie, was delighted with how the jump racing spectacular had gone.
He said: “It was a wonderful Gold Cup and great to witness such a quality new champion and to see everyone enjoying the racing in such remarkable conditions.”
