No Sheikh Mohammed youngsters for Loder
Sheikh Mohammed will not be sending any juveniles to David Loder this year, although the Newmarket trainer will look after around 50 horses from the various other interests the Sheikh has as part of Darley Stud Management.
Loder worked exclusively as a two-year-old trainer for Godolphin when based in France in 1999 and 2000, having gained a reputation with younger horses after notable successes with Blue Duster and Bahamian Bounty.
However, the operation, based at Evry racecourse was not a success and Loder returned to Newmarket as a public trainer, while Godolphin’s trainer Saeed Bin Suroor enjoyed a great amount of success with his juvenile team last season.
John Ferguson, Darley’s managing director told the Racing Post: “We have a good relationship with David and he will be training about the same amount of horses for Darley next year as this, for various nominees such as Jumeirah Racing.
“It was inevitable, with Godolphin training its own two-year-olds and Darley having a pre-training yard of 130 yearlings, that there would be fewer horses to distribute to race in Sheikh Mohammed’s maroon and white colours.
“However, there are many other entities within Darley who have horses with David Loder and will continue to in the future.”
