Champion jockey Tony McCoy has two rides at Wetherby tomorrow as he returns to the track following a nine-day layoff.

The rider got his thumb stuck in the reins when he was thrown from Flying Patriarch at the start of the Daily Mail Juvenile Hurdle at Folkestone last Monday.

Initial fears were that he had suffered a fracture but X-rays later showed he had dislocated his thumb at the tip.

McCoy had the plaster removed from it yesterday and will have his first ride back for Jonjo O’Neill in the Countryside Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle aboard Ursis, who will be making his debut over timber.

The jockey will then be in action on She’s No Muppet in the Doncaster Bloodstock Sales/EBF Mares’ Only Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race as he warms up for some big rides this weekend which include Baracouda and First Gold at Newbury.
