Pipe hoping for Gold rush
Martin Pipe believes Celestial Gold could be an able substitute for the sidelined Our Vic in Saturday’s Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham.
Stable jockey Timmy Murphy takes the mount, while Jamie Moore will partner the Nicholashayne handler’s other runner It Takes Time.
Celestial Gold has won two of his five starts, taking a valuable novice chase at Cheltenham last April and a minor event at Towcester.
Saturday’s race is over a shorter trip of an extended two and a half miles, but Pipe is certain the six-year-old will be suited by it.
“Celestial Gold won over three miles one and a half furlongs at Cheltenham and has also been successful over two and three-quarter miles round Towcester,” he said.
“He has abundant stamina, but I do think the shorter trip will suit him on Saturday.
“I’m sure they will go a tremendous gallop, and while I would have preferred Our Vic to run, this is a young, improving horse and a worthy substitute.”
