This afternoon’s National Hunt meeting at Carlisle has been abandoned after the track failed to pass an 8.30am inspection.

Over 11mm of rain soaked the Cumbrian venue during the night, leaving standing water in places.

“We have had to abandon as the track is waterlogged in places,” said clerk of the course Johnnie Fenwicke-Clennell.

“We have walked right round in the daylight and would have had to miss three fences and two hurdles out if we were to race.

“The rain has stopped and it is quite a nice morning but we have just had too much rain – two inches in the past eight days.”
