Salisbury to hold inspection

Waterlogging continues to jeopardise Salisbury’s high-class two-day fixture later this week, with an inspection already called for Friday’s card.

The stewards will inspect the course at 8am on Thursday after three millimetres of rain fell today on top of two inches over the weekend.

“After the heavy rain on Sunday night, we had hoped for four or five days of uninterrupted drying weather, but we received another 3mm of rain today,” said clerk of the course Jeremy Martin, who is fearing the worst.

“Further showers are possible on Wednesday before things are set to improve. The better weather may come too late for us as the course is still saturated and unraceable.”

The highlight of Friday’s card is the Brick Kiln Stud Autumn Stakes, a Group Three race for two-year-olds over a mile.

The two-day fixture has been transferred from Ascot and is due to feature the K J Pike & Sons Ltd Cornwallis Stakes on Saturday, with four races live on BBC on both days.

A decision about Saturday’s programme is likely on Friday.
