Trainer Karl Burke has insisted he is innocent of any wrongdoing after being arrested and bailed yesterday as part of a British police investigation into race-fixing.

Burke was due to have a runner at Carlisle this afternoon and said he would have to “bite the bullet” of bad publicity, although he is confident his name will be cleared.

“It was a complete surprise and I am very disappointed and very angry at how it was done,” he told www.thisisyork.co.uk.

“My name has been slapped all over the place, but I have got to bite the bullet and wait and go through the process.

“I am a bit bitter it has happened the way it has. Inquiries have to be made but I have nothing to answer. I have done nothing wrong.”
