Mullins says Hedgehunter can last National
Willie Mullins is adamant that leading Martell Cognac Grand National hope Hedgehunter will not be found wanting for stamina at Aintree on Saturday.
The eight-year-old was travelling particularly well turning for home in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Newbury on his seasonal reappearance before eventually finishing fourth to Strong Flow.
He followed that with a third in the Coral Welsh National before an impressive all-the-way success in the Goulding Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park, which saw him promoted to the head of the National ante-post market.
Mullins said: “The Hennessy was his first run of the year and he blew up a bit, and in the Welsh National he was always doing a bit too much in behind horses.
“But if you can win over three miles round Gowran in the soft, you stay.”
Hedgehunter is a best-priced 12-1 for the National.
