Carlisle abandon chase plans

Carlisle’s meeting on Friday will consist of six hurdle races and a bumper after the three scheduled chases were abandoned following an inspection of the track today.

The going on the chase circuit had been described as firm, hard in places.

After checking the track, clerk of the course Jonnie Fenwicke-Clennell said: “The majority of it is all right but there are places where it is a bit hard.

“Trying to water in a hurricane is not easy. The problem area is along the top and we’ve had trouble getting water to it and at the moment it is still hard in places there.

“The hurdle track is in such great nick and there will be seven races – six hurdles and a bumper.”

The first race is due to start at 2.10pm.
