Ascot hero Choisir is set to be named Australia’s top international performer for 2002-03 at the nation’s Champion Racehorse Awards on July 3.

The category was to be held over this season because of a lack of contenders but the exploits of the New South Wales-based sprinter caused a rethink by the committee.

There is also a good chance the three-year-old could be named champion sprinter, although the present judging criteria of the award does not include international performances.

The four-year-old was regarded as a live contender for the sprint title before he came to England.

However, his efforts in landing the Group Two King’s Stand Stakes and following up in the Golden Jubilee Stakes, Saturday’s Group One highlight, ensured his place in history.
