Darryll Holland is hoping the Alan Jarvis-trained Jardines Lookout will be his first ride in the Melbourne Cup later this season.

Jardines Lookout finished a fine fourth behind Mr Dinos in last week’s Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, where he flew at the finish having got outpaced with half a mile to run.

Holland said today: “Mr Jarvis has said I can stick with the horse and I’m looking forward to riding him in the Goodwood Cup and then, later on, in the Melbourne Cup.

“I thought he ran a great race at Ascot, and we would have been second in another 50 yards. He takes a bit of knowing but we got on well and I’m hoping for big things from him.”
