British Jockey Club consider Wright case

Britain's Jockey Club Disciplinary Committee will consider evidence against five men relating to corruption in racing on Friday.

Brian Brendan Wright, Brian Anthony Wright, Paul Shannon, Ian Kiernan and Barrie Wright will all face being banned from any premises owned, licensed, or controlled by Britain's Jockey Club.

Evidence due to be placed before the three-man committee will include transcripts given to Southampton Crown Court, UK, at the trial of Barrie Wright and to Woolwich Crown Court, UK, at the trial of Brian Anthony Wright, Paul Shannon and Ian Kiernan.

Brian Brendan Wright, who has an outstanding international arrest warrant against him for his alleged involvement in drugs trafficking, is believed to be in hiding in the Middle East.

Brian Anthony Wright and Ian Kiernan are both in custody in Britain and Barrie Wright is believed to be in custody in Belgium.

None of the five are expected to attend the hearings.

"We would have been in a position to take action against Brian Brendan Wright before now but we were prevented from doing so by the reporting restrictions placed on the court cases," explained John Maxse, public relations director at the Jockey Club.

"We were then further delayed by the Graham Bradley inquiry which his defence could have argued would have been prejudiced if we had held these inquiries first.

"Obviously we will be able to use all of the testimonies given in court as evidence."
