Margarson hoping for profitable week

George Margarson is set to field a strong team at Newmarket’s valuable July Meeting this week.

George Margarson is set to field a strong team at Newmarket’s valuable July Meeting this week.

The Newmarket handler has a number of horses set to take their chances at ‘Headquarters’ and Margarson admits: ‘‘I have two with realistic chances this week and one with a good outside chance.’’

Margarson’s first chance at the meeting is My Only Sunshine in the £50,000 Tote Exacta Rated Stakes on Tuesday, the opening day of the popular fixture.

The three-year-old gelding has turned in two good performances over course and distance this season.

He was second to Fayr Jag at the end of last month after another second place behind Fire Up The Band on his seasonal debut, and Margarson believes he would have a fair chance should he run.

‘‘My Only Sunshine is just a little bit out of the handicap and I probably won’t run him if he looks like being too far out.

‘‘He ran a good race last time but I wouldn’t want to let him take his chance if he was out of the weights but he is bouncing at the minute.’’
