Mick Kinane has been chosen to partner a ‘‘much-stronger’’ Jardines Lookout to get the horse's 2002 campaign underway at York on Thursday in the Merewood Homes Yorkshire Cup.

Trainer Alan Jarvis has booked the Irish champion jockey for the ride on the five-year-old gelding and is expecting a big showing from the top-class stayer, who finished third in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot last year.

Kinane was also on board when Jardines Lookout finished first in the Melrose Stakes in 2000 over the same course and distance as Thursday’s race, only to be controversially disqualified for causing interference.

‘‘He is in great form and I think he’ll run really well,’’ Jarvis said.
