Riviera Sun can shine for Barry Geraghty at Roscommon Rated Novice Hurdle

Riviera Sun might be capable of giving Barry Geraghty his first win as retained rider for J P McManus in the Roscommon Rated Novice Hurdle tonight.

Riviera Sun can shine for Barry Geraghty at Roscommon Rated Novice Hurdle

Back from injury, Geraghty began his new role on Sunday in Limerick where he finished second on Hash Brown.

Although he has a bit to find on official ratings with the likes of Childrens List, the Henry de Bromhead-trained Riviera Sun looks capable of getting him off the mark in the new job.

Winner of his maiden hurdle in Limerick in late March, Riviera Sun then finished sixth to Shamiran in a competitive handicap hurdle at the Punchestown Festival.

And, last time, he showed a liking for today’s terrain when getting the better of Mr. Boss Man and Space Ship in a two-mile rated novice event.

The step-up to two and a half miles should suit Geraghty’s mount and he gets the nod over the Willie Mullins-trained Childrens List, whose maiden success in Tramore has been boosted by three of his victims, most notably runner-up Ballinaboola Prince.

Aidan O’Brien has three runners for J P McManus on tonight’s card and Kalopsia, collared in the dying strides by Glacial Drift at Down Royal in her second start, will be fancied to continue Sarah O’Brien’s tremendous strike rate – she has won on six of her last eight rides – in the mares bumper.

No trainer is in better form than Gordon Elliott and his Cecil Corbett, runner-up in his last three starts, looks another likely winner for the Cullentra team in the Martinstown Opportunity Maiden Hurdle.
