Days out to confirm his Derby credentials
A surprise all-the-way winner of the three-runner Ballysax Stakes when Ballydoyle’s big hope John F Kennedy trailed in last, the Jeremy colt is out to prove it was no fluke.
Some great names have won the trial in the past and Condon is hoping a win will set him up nicely for the Irish Derby.
“I’ve been pleased with him since the Ballysax and he’s in good shape, he’ll love the ground,” said Condon.
“He’s very undemonstrative work-wise at home, he just seems to come to life on the track.
“We’re at the stage where we don’t know how good he is.
“From what we can see of him at home, though, he’s progressed.
“In a funny way I think I’d have preferred it if John F Kennedy and Zawraq were running as racing is all about the competition.
“This is a great time of year with all the Derby trials going on, but our aim remains the second entry stage of the Irish Derby which is May 20.
“That’s the plan and then we’ll just hope for soft ground at the Curragh.” With John F Kennedy skipping the rematch, Aidan O’Brien is represented by Order Of St George and Cradle Mountain
Dermot Weld also decided to give the race a miss with Zawraq and instead runs the filly Summaya. Carbon Dating completes the five-runner field.
