Side with Sceilg
Formerly trained by Jim Bolger, she is now in the care of Brendan Duke. Sceilg, however, remains in the ownership of Bolger’s wife, Jackie.
Sceilg has hit the bar on a number of occasions, finishing second three times. Her latest appearance was at the Curragh in the middle of September, taking sixth of 17 in a competitive handicap won by Placere.
Arguably, her main rival now is the consistent, but moderate, The Visitor. According to the handicapper’s ratings, however, he has 6lbs to find with Sceilg.
As well as that the selection will now be partnered by a Bolger apprentice, Killian Hennessy, who claims a further 7lbs.
Michael Halford’s Settle For Red is in good shape at the moment and can provide the answer to the first division of the Crowne Plaza Hotel Race And Stay Handicap.
He ran here two weeks ago, when grabbed late and beaten a head into second by Bog War. The son of Redback has to be fancied to go close, off a mark 3lbs higher.
John Carr’s Atlas Peak, beaten a short head by California Rose at Dundalk last time and just a pound higher, could provide the answer to the second section of the same contest.
Pat Martin’s Reckless Lad went up 3lbs for going down by two lengths to Our Manekineko at Dundalk and can go one better in the Dundalk-Light Up Your Night Handicap, even if the trip is a shade on the short side.
