Ruby set toby pass Plumpton
The 2012 Champion Hurdle hero, who made a successful debut over fences at the East Sussex track last month, could turn up at Doncaster for the Check Out The All-New FreeBets.co.uk Novices’ Chase next Wednesday. But that too is with the proviso that conditions are suitable.
“It’s unlikely he’ll run at Plumpton. The ground is heavy there. He’ll probably go to Doncaster on the Wednesday,” said trainer Harry Fry’s assistant Ciara O’Connor.
“It will be the same situation there though. We will only run him if the ground is OK. We’re not going to slog him out on heavy, soft ground again.
“We’ll just take it one step at a time and just hope the rain will eventually stop.
“The horse is in great order. He’s grown a couple of inches since he started jumping fences. We’re looking forward to getting him out again.”
* Connections have no immediate plans for Vukovar following his impressive victory over fences at Newbury recently.
The French import appears to have an extremely bright future after he made all the running to slam Open Hearted by 21 lengths over an extended two and a quarter miles.
“Vukovar is absolutely perfect. He came out of the race great and we’re looking forward to him. He’s very exciting,” said trainer Harry Fry’s assistant Ciara O’Connor.
“There are no plans at the minute. He’s a five-year-old and we’re just taking it one step at a time and we’re not going to push him too hard.”
* Deep Trouble is likely to stick to handicap company when he bids to land a second course and distance success at Sandown on Saturday.
Trainer Ben Case is leaning towards the 32Red Handicap Hurdle for the seven-year-old rather than the Grade One 32Red Tolworth Hurdle Novices’ Hurdle over the same extended two miles.
“I think the sensible option is to go for the handicap. That’s the plan,” said the Banbury handler. He’s in good form. We’re very happy with him. Daryl (Jacob) schooled him on Tuesday. He schooled well and I’m pleased with the horse at the moment.”
