Lady clips Rosebud’s wings a second time

Lady Wingshot, who beat Yellow Rosebud at Galway, confirmed the form on 2lbs worse terms in the Group 3 Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary last night.

Lady clips Rosebud’s wings a second time

Yellow Rosebud went off the 2-1 favourite, with Lady Wingshot returned a remarkable 7-1.

On the track it was really no contest, with Lady Wingshot, who was drawn unfavourably wide, cruising ahead over a furlong down for Kevin Manning.

Yellow Rosebud was soon in pursuit, but never threatened to close down the winner, who was a snug half a length to the good at the line.

Trainer, Jim Bolger, wasn’t at the meeting, but the indications were that the progressive daughter of Lawman could return to Tipperary for the Concorde Stakes.

Said Manning: “I was surprised coming back in when I heard the prices of the two horses.

“The ground is very soft and chopped up and I stayed out where I was and found a nice bit. My horse has a turn of foot and put it to bed in a few strides.’

Sugar Boy got a very positive drive from Chris Hayes to take the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Premier Nursery.

He drove him through the first furlong to soon lead and Sugar Boy never flinched in the straight to beat well-backed favourite, Designs On Rome.

Trainer, Paddy Prendergast, said: “He’s really a mile and a half horse, who wants good ground.

“He will probably go for the Lartigue Nursery at Listowel and then the nine furlongs Listed race (Eyrefield Stakes) at Leopardstown.’

Hayes completed a double with another excellent front-running drive aboard Irish Reel in the Meadowview Stables Handicap.

Continuing Harry Rogers’ fine season, Irish Reel found plenty for pressure to resist the persistent challenge of Circle.

“When they’re going well you have to keep running them’, said a delighted Rogers.

Tommy Stack’s Parkers Mill, a big disappointment over a mile and six at Killarney previously, showed his appreciation of a decent drop in trip when taking the Mocklershill Stables Race.

He got a powerful Wayne Lordan drive to beat Taameer, who had nowhere to go through the final furlong and was an unlucky loser.

Fozzy Stack represented his father and said: “He’s got plenty of ability, but has been a little bid frustrating.

“His next race will definitely be on the flat, but jumping hurdles could be the road for him.’

Ken Condon’s Jappeli was entrusted with favouritism in the Costello Tavern Handicap and did the business.

Ross Coakley drove him into the lead over a furlong out and Jappeli kept going to beat Red Sea Poll.

Commented Condon: “He went up 4lbs for finishing second here, but Ross’ claim was useful. He’s entered in a few places next week and may go to Killarney.’

Line Drummer, a costly failure at Galway, justified odds of 1-3 in the three-runner Camas Park Stud EBF Maiden, but you could hardly describe the son of Galileo as progressive.

He left the stalls like a rocket, soon established a clear advantage and turned for home looking as if he would win by a street. But Line Drummer tied up rather dramatically in the closing stages and was only a length and a quarter in front of Jan Van Eyck at the line.
