Gordon emigrating to Australia

LEADING greyhound trainer Pat Gordon has decided to emigrate to Australia with his family and expects to depart in the new two months.

The likeable Enniscorthy man burst to prominence back in 2009 when Fatboyz Nodrog emerged as a serious tracker and became one of the favourites for the Irish Derby after winning the Champion Stakes at Shelbourne. Within a few months the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake was claimed via Fatboyz Tyson and since then he has been an ever-present among the Saturday night Shelbourne winners.

“Angela and I have been talking about going to Australia for years and both of us want to do it, “ said Gordon. “I am 34 now and it would be too late to do it if we didn’t go now.”

Pat will be leaving behind him a strong team of greyhounds, mainly bearing the Fatboyz and Airforce prefixes. Indeed, only last Friday at Shelbourne he had two very impressive winners as Airforce Frankie won in 28.62 and Airforce Newyork clocked 29.78 (550).

* THE changes to the membership of the Irish Greyhound Board were finally confirmed yesterday. Mattie Murphy from Galway, Brendan Moore from Ballylanders, Co Limerick and Tony McNamee from Calverstown, Co Kildare have been appointed to the board, while Tim Gilbert, a Limerick native living in Dublin, is reappointed.

* ENTRIES close today at noon for the Ted Hegarty Marathon which kicks off at Harolds Cross on Friday night. There will be one British challenger in top stayer Lottes Girl while Derek Kehoe’s Slaneyside Havoc will defend his crown.
