Lyons gets his wish with Future Generation

ALL season Ger Lyons had been hoping to win a Pattern race with Future Generation and his wish came through last night when the filly made most to land the Group 3 Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown.

Lyons gets his wish with Future Generation

Ridden by Keagan Latham, for whom the 3-1 shot was winner number 12 of the season, Future Generation held the challenge of evens favourite Emiyna and afterwards Lyons, who trains the winner for the Viking Syndicate, said: “This filly is all heart and winning a race like this has been the plan all season.

“She ran second in the Minstrel Stakes last time despite not being 100% and that run encouraged us to go for tonight’s race. We’ll look for something similar and we’ll keep her on the go until she tells us she wants to stop.”

Winners for jockey David McCabe have been a rarity in his long association with Ballydoyle and when he brought 10-1 shot Astrology through from the back of the field for a two length win in the one mile two year old maiden, it was his first success since he scored on Mystic Mayfly for Prunella Dobbs at Sligo four years ago.

“This isn’t my first winner for Aidan. I rode one for him at Navan a good few years back but I can’t remember his name. Astrology is a nice horse and did it well, ” said McCabe. Mannheim, a stablemate of the winner and the 4-6 favourite, weakened into third place after hitting the front early in the straight.

Jim Bolger believes that Lady Wingshot who took the seven furlong two year old fillies maiden by half a length, under Kevin Manning, will develop into a smart sort next season. “The step up in trip suited her and she will get a mile.

“I think she will develop into a decent filly next year as she should improve a good bit,” Bolger said of the Ballylinch Stud’s daughter of Lawman.

Bolger and Manning completed a double when Burn The Floor easily landed the one mile three-year-old and four-year-old fillies maiden by two and a half lengths.

The Leopardstown Cup, a five runner handicap restricted to trainers involved in the RTE Television series ‘Stars Go Racing’ went to the Michael Halford trained Barrow Island and Johnny Murtagh.

The winning rider entered into the spirit of things by doing a Dettori-style flying dismount in the winner’s enclosure before lifting Ella McSweeney, the RTE presenter and Halford’s assistant for the purposes of the series, off the ground.

The Listed Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary on Thursday is the plan for Seeharn who took the seven furlong Breast Cancer Ireland Handicap for Declan McDonogh and Kevin Prendergast. The winner was contesting her first handicap and following her two length win, Prendergast said: “She was beaten only three lengths in a Group 3 last time and that run entitled her to win tonight.”

Colin Keane (16) rode his third winner when taking the latest leg of the Derrinstown Appentice Series — a one and a quarter mile handicap — on Unhinged for owner-trainer John Coleman.

“Not a bad effort for an 11 year old. When Niall McCullagh rode this fellow at Wexford last time he recommended dropping him back in trip, so fair play to him. We’ll probably go for another race in this series at the Curragh at the end of the month,” said Stephen McCarthy, assistant to Coleman.
