Smooth win for progressive Adiynara
Carrying the famous colours of the Aga Khan and trained by Michael Halford, the daughter of Halling coasted into the lead a furlong down to easily beat front-running, Noble Call.
Commented Halford: “She went forward since winning at Ballinrobe, appreciated the ease in the ground and is getting better and stronger with racing.”
This was Murtagh’s 29th winner of the season and he is currently four clear of Pat Smullen.
David Wachman’s Self Preservation, who caught the eye on her debut at Navan, made no mistake in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden.
She tracked the leaders until asked to quicken by Wayne Lordan and readily went clear from the furlong pole to score by five lengths.
“She was green the first day, but improved and there should be more improvement to come”, remarked Wachman. “She will go further, five furlongs is too short for her.”
If Lordan had it easy on Self Preservation then he had to be as his very best aboard the Tommy Stack-trained Whatever It Takes in the Glen Of Aherlow Handicap.
Lordan rode a powerful finish, forcing Whatever It Takes to the front in the final stride to short head Music On D Waters.
Stack’s son, Fozzy, said: “That’s great, I think he is the first winner we have trained on the flat for J P (McManus).”
Ronan Whelan, who partnered Akinspirit in this contest, was found guilty of using his whip with excessive frequency and suspended for four days and ordered to attend RACE for a day’s tuition.
Jamesie defied joint top weight of 9-11 in good style in the Visit Tipperary Racecourse Handicap.
Produced by Colm O’Donoghue inside the furlong pole, he stayed on resolutely to beat Yellow Dandy.
“He’s a horse we like a lot and hope to run him in a handicap at the big July meeting at Newmarket”, said trainer, David Marnane.
O’Donoghue and Marnane completed a double with Aragorn Icon in the jogforjockeys.ie Handicap.
The four-year-old got to the front at the furlong pole and quickly scampered clear of Elusive Moon. “He’s been knocking on the door, but to be fair to him has had some horrible draws and had a good draw here.”
John Oxx had the first two in the Tippperary Racecourse Maiden, Saddler’s Rock, owned by Corkman, Michael O’Flynn, beating Red Calima.
The latter edged ahead with two furlongs to run, but Ben Curtis conjured a terrific late spurt from Saddler’s Rock to grab the advantage close home.
Slim O’Neill represented Oxx and reported: “Being by Sadler’s Wells the little ease in the ground was a help. He has progressed with every run and will stay two miles.”
The promising Leigh Roche was again seen to good effect when landing the tipperaryraces.ie Handicap on 14-1 shot Asiya. Roche kicked hard early in the straight to beat the dead-heaters, Define and Ghareer.
