Blinkers can work for Wagon
Aidan O’Brien’s once-raced Paint Your Wagon is the nap choice in a particularly competitive Tipperary Racecourse Maiden.
The son of Pivotal made his debut at Navan in April and performed reasonably well to finish sixth behind the John Oxx-trained pair, Zanughan and Wakhan.
Paint Your Wagon ran prominently for a long way and wasn’t knocked about in the closing stages when it was clear he wasn’t going to win.
O’Brien now puts blinker on the colt, but that’s of no great concern, because it is a tactic he has been increasingly using.
The hope now is that, like a lot his stable companions, the selection will come on plenty for his initial outing and, if that’s the case, should not be far away.
David Wachman’s Self Preservation gets the nod in the five furlongs Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden.
She was slowly away first time out at Navan earlier this month, before finishing to some effect when fourth behind Kevin Prendergast’s Aaraas.
Self Preservation has a little over a length to find with runner-up Perfect Godess, who had the benefit of two previous outings, and may reverse the placings.
Andrew Oliver’s Salaamie is the one to beat in the Visit Tipperary Racecourse Handicap, another contest over the minimum trip.
He was beaten a head by Patrickswell at Down Royal on Saturday, when 2lbs out of the handicap. Salaamie goes up by 4lbs in the future.
Spin Of A Coin, who took a handicap with plenty in hand at Leopardstown a week ago, might provide the answer to the 2011 Pride Of Tipperary Launch Race.
