Ruby can double-up

RUBY WALSH can make sure punters are in good shape for the weekend by riding the first two winners at Wexford tonight.

Ruby can double-up

Walsh partners Cootamundra in the Vinegar Hill Maiden Hurdle and John Berry’s charge is the nap choice.

The selection, now an eight-year-old, has never won a race, but this represents a very suitable opportunity and a long threatening can come at last!

Cootamundra returned from a break at Killarney last month to finish third behind Alderwood and Eyre Apparent and was then well fancied next time at Cork.

Walsh was aboard and the combination was just beginning to work into the contest when Cootamundra fell six out.

He would almost certainly have gone close, but for that mishap, and against modest opposition may finally enjoy a turn.

Walsh can guide the lightly raced Luck Pennie to success in the opener, the Mount Leinster Maiden Hurdle.

The four-year-old ran well at Clonmel, four lengths runner-up behind Tom Horn, and has plenty of scope for improvement.

The progressive Presenting Nama looks best in an interesting Wellingtonbridge Novice Hurdle.

There was plenty to admire in the way be battled when beating God’s County and Eyre Apparent at Clonmel, on his first start over jumps.

Dropping back half a mile in trip, at this track, is not ideal, but Presenting Nama does have a hint of class, on the basis of two wins in bumpers.

Navan houses a shocking programme, with five of the seven contests almost impossible to solve handicaps.

Casimir Road, who showed some promise when eighth to Best Hello and Apache at Leopardstown in March, might be good enough to squeeze through the Lynn Lodge Stud Maiden.
