Charger can go one better
The John McConnell trained five-year-old has a little edge on the handicapper, on the basis that he goes up by 3lbs in the future.
That’s as a result of a decent effort at Kilbeggan last Sunday. The selection tried to make all of the running, but was grabbed in the final stride and beaten a short head by Mind The Steps.
Talented claimer, Matt Bowes, again takes the ride and, hopefully, similar tactics can see him go one better on this occasion.
The aforementioned Mind The Steps looks the answer to the Thorny Bridge Handicap Hurdle.
He has a mandatory 6lbs penalty to overcome for that Kilbeggan success, which sees him at the top of the weights. But another claimer, Robert Jones, who partnered the horse at Kilbeggan, is again in the plate and this does look a weak event.
The Valley Of Honey Maiden Hurdle may be destined for Edward O’Grady’s lightly-raced Sun Fisher, with just two outings under his belt.
He performed with a little promise on his debut at Tramore back in August and wasn’t seen again until reappearing at Tipperary last month.
Sun Fisher went off an unconsidered 25-1 shot then and was holding every chance — contest won by Blackwell Synergy in front of subsequent winner Loch Long — when falling at the final flight.
Ordinary Man, a largely disappointing sort, but who ran nice sort of race when fifth behind Presenting Nama on this course 13 days ago, could be the answer to a modest Cluain Meala Maiden Hurdle.
