Don’t write off World - Queally
The three-year-old was ante-post favourite for the Derby prior to the Knavesmire trial, but a trip to Epsom now looks doubtful after he was well beaten into fourth by Carlton House.
The colt, who didn’t make it to the track as a two-year-old, showed his inexperience when failing to settle behind the slow early pace and consequently he was unable to raise his game as Carlton House and Seville battled out the finish.
Royal Ascot looks the Henry Cecil-trained colt’s most likely next stop and Queally feels there is huge improvement to come.
Speaking to www.racinguk.com, the jockey said: “On the one hand World Domination was disappointing in finishing more than seven lengths behind Carlton House.
“But on the other hand it was a muddling race and he will have more time now if heading straight to the King Edward VII Stakes, rather than taking in Epsom two weeks earlier.
“Epsom can take a lot out of horses and it’s probably a blessing in disguise, as he doesn’t give the impression he would be ready so soon for a test like that.
“He’s better than that performance we saw and it will be most interesting to see how he gets on if he does go to Royal Ascot.”
Cecil agreed that the Derby would now come too soon.
“He’s come out of it well but he’s not experienced enough for the Derby,” said the Warren Place handler.
“He didn’t have a run as a two-year-old and is still a big baby.
“Give him time and he’ll hopefully come to himself.”
