Cool set to follow up
Prior to Killarney, the selection had run just three times for Robbie Burns and, truth to tell, hadn’t shown a great deal.
But five days ago, now in the care of Charles Byrnes, the market spoke volumes and he was strong morning prices and on track from 8-1 to 5-1.
This, despite the fact that Willie Mullins’ De Senectute was almost impossible to oppose, she went off at 1-2, having a theoretical 15lbs in hand.
De Senectute did look the most likely winner rising to the last, but got it badly wrong and Jack Cool finished with a flourish to beat outsider, Zhdanovichy, by half a length.
Jack Cool now returns under a mandatory 6lbs penalty, but doesn’t have much in hand, considering the handicapper has only put him up by 8lbs in the future.
Nevertheless, the four-year-old has a lot of scope for improvement and has to be the choice.
Noel Meade’s Waterloo Chateau is the one to beat in the Eamon Sheridan Plant Hire Novice Hurdle.
Having his second outing for Meade – he used to be trained by Tom Taaffe – Waterloo Chateau made all of the running to beat Ardnavalley a length at Roscommon two weeks ago.
Tony Mullins’ Impersonator can land the Almotech In-Store Radio Handicap Hurdle. He was too strong for Shopfrontspecialist at Tipperary on Sunday and can defy a 6lbs penalty, in what appears to be a weaker race.
