Yeats camp on weather watch
Aidan O’Brien’s veteran created history when winning a fourth Gold Cup at Royal Ascot back in June and has been prepared for the Curragh Group One, which he won in 2007, ever since.
However, the master of Ballydoyle has issued an early warning that with all the rain around in Ireland at present, the eight-year-old may be a doubtful starter.
“He’s in good shape. He’s had a break since Ascot but is in good form and was at the Curragh a couple of weeks back. That’s where he started and we’re looking forward to taking him back,” said O’Brien.
“Obviously he’s an eight-year-old entire now and he’s got plenty of personality, he believes in himself. He’s in great order and has a great constitution.
“We’d love to run him but obviously he handles fast ground very well. He’s in good order and if we can run him at all we’d love to. If it was soft it would be safe but might not be his ideal ground.
“If he didn’t run we could maybe look at a race over Arc weekend (Prix du Cadran) – we’re looking to the Curragh first at the moment though,” he told At The Races.
