Walsh and Carberry sidelined

RUBY WALSH and Paul Carberry, in the wars at Killarney on Sunday, both missed last night’s meeting at the Kerry track.

Walsh twisted his left ankle and Carberry injured his knee when their respective mounts, Imperial Hills and Robin Du Bois, fell at the third last in the featured handicap hurdle.

Walsh’s agent and sister, Jennifer, yesterday described the champion jockey as “very sore” and said he was going to take a few days off to help his recovery.

Carberry reported: “The inside of my knee has flared up, but it should be okay in a few days, so I hope to be back riding at Kilbeggan on Saturday.”

Imperial Hills and Robin Du Bois were killed on an afternoon which claimed four other horses.

Willie Mullins withdrew all of his six intended runners last night, officually because of the change in ground. Four of them were originally due to be partnered by Walsh.

Jim Kavanagh, Chief Executive of the Trainers' Association, moved yesterday, however, to exonerate Killarney.

Said Kavanagh: “We made a number of inquiries with trainers this morning, including those who lost horses, and wish to put on record that there was no problem with the ground and no blame for the deaths is attached to Killarney.”
