National objective as Cloudy team play waiting game
The nine-year-old defied a mark of 155 when winning the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock on Saturday for his fifth course success.
The world’s greatest steeplechase at Aintree on April 4, in which he was sixth last year, is again the principal objective and he is a best-priced 25-1.
Entries for the four and a half mile spectacular close on January 27 and the weights will be revealed in London on February 10.
“We’ll wait until the weights come out for the National and then kick on and run him again somewhere,” said trainer Donald McCain.
“It’s possible he’d go for the Grimthorpe at Doncaster (February 28) which he won last year and there’s also a conditions chase up at Kelso the same day. We’ll see.”
McCain reported the horse to be in fine from after his narrow victory over Glasker Mill.
“He’s been great and is in tremendous form. I don’t think he was doing an awful lot once he hit the front,” the Cholmondeley trainer continued.
“When they came to him he went again. He’s come back in really good nick and he’s really pleased with himself.”
Will Be Done completed a double for the McCain team at Haydock on Saturday when winning his fourth chase on the bounce and is unlikely to rest on his laurels.
“We’ve talked about the Powers Gold Cup in Ireland over Easter but we’ll have to make entries in a couple of the big novice chases as well and see because he’s done nothing wrong,” McCain added.
“He could conceivably turn out again in a couple of weeks in the Towton at Wetherby over an extended three miles but we’ll just wait and see how he is.”
