Welsh National option for Houdini
Davy Fitzgerald’s six-year-old was seeking a hat-trick in the Cork Grand National but after passing the post in first, the officials ruled there was enough interference – albeit accidental – between the last two obstacles to relegate him to second behind Alickadoo.
The Co Limerick handler was less than impressed with that
decision but still believes there are more big prizes to be won with him in the future.
“He’s a real tough horse and he was obviously unlucky yesterday, but that’s just the way it goes,” said Fitzgerald. “We will look a the Troytown Chase for him and as he is now up to 119, he will probably get into that.
“Then we could look at either the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown or maybe the Welsh National at Chepstow.
“We would definitely consider going over for that as it is often heavy ground there and he really needs a test of stamina so I would be anxious to travel for that.
“He’s had the two races in six days now and he has done us proud.
“Looking at the race yesterday again, I definitely think he was a bit hard done by. We are actually appealing against the result but what that’s worth, I don’t know.”
