Dark Humour to keep punters smiling
The son of Bahri looks a typical Weld-special, given the obligatory one run, before having his attention focused on heading west.
He made his debut at Gowran Park in June, when an easy to back 12-1 shot in a contest won by Aidan O’Brien’s Sawtooth Mountain.
The selection finished fifth of 15, noted doing all his best work at the end of seven furlongs. The form has been working out well, with Tomas an Tsioda (second), Driving Snow (third) and Mourayan (eighth) scoring in the meantime.
O’Brien’s Indian Ocean is the obvious danger, having finished seventh behind Driving Snow in a hot contest at the Curragh.
He could easily come on a bundle for that experience, but Dark Humour is likely to relish the uphill finish and the extended mile and gets a reasonably confident vote.
The Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Premier Nursery is a tight and fascinating little handicap, which can go to Jim Bolger’s Tomas An Tsioda.
He was proving just a little frustrating, until getting off the mark at Fairyhouse last time, and, well drawn, looks the pick of the weights.
Reisk Superman is fancied to shrug off top weight of 12-0 in the Low Low Galway Blazers Handicap Chase.
Certainly if stripping in the same shape as when scoring here on Tuesday night then Tony Martin’s ten-year-old should prove hard to beat.
He won with any amount in hand, shooting away in the straight to beat Keys Pride by ten lengths.
Martin indicated he would not turn out again at the meeting, but the handicapper has surely forced his hand. Reisk Superman runs now under a mandatory 4lbs penalty and goes up 14lbs in the future.
At Galway tomorrow we again rely on maestro Weld to supply us with a winning nap in the shape of Suailce in the Mercer Hotel EBF Fillies Maiden.
She has a serious bout of seconditis to overcome, finishing in that position four times in as many runs, and there will be plenty who won’t have her.
But the daughter of Singspiel seems honest enough and she stuck to her task when beaten half a length by Masiyma at Limerick on her latest appearance. The fitting of blinkers for the first time is the clincher.
The rest of the card appears especially difficult, but maybe Weld will also supply the solution to the valuable Michael McNamara and Co Builders Dublin and Galway Handicap with Thoughtless Moment.
A smart three-year-old, she probably needed the run, over a trip, nine furlongs, which stretched her stamina, when runner-up behind Icemancometh at Fairyhouse 13 days ago.
