Go with Gallant
Dermot Weld’s gelding, partnered then by David Evans, didn’t exactly cover himself in glory on his only outing over flights when a poor seventh behind Earmark at Wexford back in March.
But we do know he possesses a fair engine, on his flat form. Strath Gallant won an ordinary maiden on the level at Clonmel and was given a mark of 84, which appeared a trifle harsh.
Nothing, however, could have been further from the truth and the selection went on to land a competitive Curragh handicap on his next outing.
Walsh has prospects of a double aboard Tony Martin’s Keelaghan in the Kentstown Beginners Chase.
This is the seven-year-old’s initial venture over fences and, formerly in the care of Mickey Flynn, he will be having just a third outing for his new trainer.
Keelaghan performed solidly over flights at Gowran Park last time, runner-up behind The Last Stand, and a competent round of jumping should see him land a moderate heat.
Tom Foley’s Giant Eagle can make a successful start over jumps in the opening Winter Festival 2007 Maiden Hurdle The dual bumper winner produced another decent effort on his latest appearance when a length and a half second to Colm Murphy’s well-regarded Zaarito at Tipperary.
Murphy’s Prince Roco looks the right one in the Bumper. He didn’t seem to stay two and a half miles when fifth to Perlogan at Listowel in early June.
Dropping down in trip and given plenty of time to mature, Prince Roco may now be primed to strike.
