Siege set to atone
Dessie Hughes’ gelding was cruising in front, several lengths to the good, when crashing out at the final flight to leave Ri Na Deise in for a lucky success.
The six-year-old is now fancied to make the most of the 8lbs he receives from Uncle Junior, who is getting his act together over flights, only failing by a neck to Hold On Man on this track on his latest appearance.
The first division of this contest is best left to Noel Meade’s Gem Daly, easy winner of a bumper at Leopardstown last Christmas.
The third section can also go to Meade with Signatory, who performed way below expectations when an odds-on failure behind Montana Bay at Punchestown back in February.
A third Meade possibility is the highly-regarded newcomer Goldmar, by Goldenyer, in the Bumper.
At Dundalk tonight, Aidan O’Brien has prospects of a double with Don Pedro Mendoza and Mikhail Fokine.
Don Pedro Mendoza is improving rapidly and is hard to oppose in the Hillgrove Hotel Monaghan Race. The son of Danehill battled on in fine style when dead-heating with Laywaan for first place at Navan nine days ago.
Mikhail Fokine too is on the upgrade and a repeat of his length and a half second to Moiqen, also at Navan, should be good enough to land the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden for colts and geldings.
Miss Gorica, who showed her liking for this track when beaten half a length by Dynamo Dancer, may shrug off a 3lbs rise in the weights in the Kane Heating Handicap.
