Bookies toast Lynch as Revisionist swoops to conquer
El Cerro was the business in the ring, finding 9-10 from a sprinkling of 6-4. Punters could be excused for thinking it was money in the bag when Ruby Walsh drove the favourite clear going to the last.
El Cerro came away from the flight with several lengths in hand, but found little on the run in and 20-1 shot Revisionist finished with a real flourish to get up on the line and win by a short head.
Bought out of Richard Hannon’s at Newmarket sales for £19,000, Revisionist gave pilot, Eoin McCarthy, his 8th success.
Commented Lynch. “He stays well and has the makings of a proper little National Hunt horse. He will now go to Listowel for a winners’ of one.”
Irish Stream, who has been struggling to find some form, landed the Sunnybank Hotel Handicap Chase.
“We resurrected him again”, quipped trainer, Dessie Hughes. Home Force seemed certain to win when edging to the front after two out.
But the blinkered nine-year-old didn’t seem the most enthusiastic on the flat and Irish Stream rallied for Roger Loughran to beat him by three parts of a length.
“That ground isn’t bad, but is as soft as he wants”, reported Hughes. “He’s a firm ground horse and will go wherever the ground is suitable, if that ever happens.”
Adrienne Foley, one of the best lady riders in the country, was again seen to advantage aboard the John Hanlon-trained Darenjan in the Noel Cummins Bookmaker Maiden.
She tracked the pace set by Nina Carberry on Goldfinger, before easing ahead down in the dip. Laureldean was soon in pursuit, but Ms Foley had saved plenty and Darenjan crossed the line with a comfortable lead.
“He might come back here later in the week for a two mile handicap on the flat”, reported Hanlon.
A change of tactics worked a treat for Belle Of The Lodge, who outclassed her rivals in the Anglo Irish Bank Maiden.
John Oxx’s filly usually runs on the pace, but was dropped out to real effect by Fran Berry. The daughter of Grand Lodge cruised to the front off the home turn, however, and was quickly four lengths clear.
Paddy Allen, who has held a licence for three months and has 15 horses in his care, enjoyed a first success when Swift Sailing took the Property Partners’ Fogarty Heterich Handicap.
The Navan handler, however, missed seeing the 16-1 get the best of a tough battle with Dodder Walk in the straight.
Swift Sailing completed a double for Fran Berry, while it is interesting to note that Dodder Walk was one of the horses who landed a “race” at the recent trials on the all-weather at Dundalk.
Dani California, who got bogged down in the heavy ground at Sligo previously, showed her appreciation of a better surface when streaking away with the Waterford Hurlers’ Handicap.
Taken from 5-1 to 5-2, she was held up near the rear of the field for much of the journey by Seamus Heffernan.
Willie Mullins’ filly was right in contention entering the final half mile and then swept ahead down hill to the straight to score unextended by six lengths.
The consistent Philip Rothwell-trained Rosoff took the moderate Snowcream Milk Handicap Hurdle with any amount in hand.
Pushed into the lead by Shane Jackson heading to the second last, Rosoff powered away for a ten lengths victory. Jackson is 20 years-of-age and this was his 17th winner.
