Domestic can deliver in maiden
The Rosewell House handler has farmed the GPT Access Equipment EBF Maiden for longer than he probably cares to remember at this stage and his Domestic Fund is burdened with the opening nap in this contest. In what has the makings of a very decent race, he is preferred to a pair of dangerous opponents in Lucifer Sam and Chun Tosaigh.
Domestic Fund had Galway written all over him following his debut at the Curragh a month ago. He finished a close fourth behind Lisvale and had Lucifer Sam three lengths behind in fifth.
Lucifer Sam, however, showed significant improvement subsequently when returning to the Curragh to chase home the ultra-smart Jim Bolger-trained New Approach, who landed a Group 3 at Leopardstown on Saturday night.
Bolger is now represented by Chun Tosaigh, a most promising third to Myboycharlie in another Group 3 at the Curragh first time up.
Weld's proven track record and the fact his colt is by Sadler's Wells, hugely important given the likely state of the ground, sways one towards Domestic Fund.
The trainer's Lisselan Eagle is a safe wager in the GPT Sligo Novice Hurdle. His form over jumps admittedly is moderate enough, but he comes here on the back of a game effort on the level at Fairyhouse and this does look a weak race.
A third Weld possibility is Dashing Romeo in the Bumper. He certainly caught the eye when fifth to Logans Run at the Curragh in May and would be a confident choice on a sound surface.
The featured GPT Galway handicap is far too open for comfort. A hopeful nod falls on Impudent, who could hardly have done her job any better when cruising to victory over a mile and six at Leopardstown. She has since emphasised her current well-being with a smooth success over flights at Bellewstown.
