Lennon to hit right note in Tolworth

LENNON can strike for the powerful Howard Johnson and Graham Wylie combination in the Grade One Anglo Irish Bank Corporate Treasury Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown today.

Lennon to hit right note in Tolworth

The former useful bumper performer has been earmarked as a chaser for the future by his owner, but that should not stop the six-year-old picking up this valuable pot.

With crack Irish raider Iktitaf absent after being cast in his box, the County Durham raider is the obvious choice to build on his first win over timber at Market Rasen last month.

He was an odds-on favourite for his debut run over hurdles at the same track in November, but he bumped into a nice sort in Hoh Viss, who went on to win by five lengths and has added to that victory since in decent company.

Lennon then duly obliged when a warm 1-5 favourite on a return visit and hardly broke sweat as he ran out a comfortable one-length winner.

How good he actually is remains to be seen, as he was only asked to go and win that race at the second-last flight, but the answer must surely be a lot better than we have seen so far.

Cloudy Grey could go well at a price in the Ladbroke Handicap Hurdle after running a blinder over the course and distance in December.

The nine-year-old humped top weight round on testing ground that day and was still in front heading to two from home.

His heavy burden started to tell once they hit the run-in but he was only beaten eight and a half lengths at the line and enjoys a decent pull at the weights with the winner, Verasi, who reopposes.

Clearly out of his depth when down the field in the Grade One Stan James Christmas Hurdle, Emma Lavelle's charge will appreciated the drop back in grade and could go well off 10st 12lb.

Pay Attention, who makes the long journey from North Yorkshire, has to be of interest in the Play Casino At Ladbrokes.com Mares' Only Handicap Hurdle. Only once out of the frame in eight starts over timber, Pay Attention has already recorded four victories and gave the impression that a fifth wasn't far away when second at Carlisle just over six weeks ago.

She ran an absolute blinder in a competitive handicap that day, comfortably accounting for all but the progressive Diamond Sal to whom she was conceding 16lb.

Having only her third outing of the campaign, Pay Attention is fancied to produce further improvement and warrants support. Clearly suited by a test of stamina, Another Native is fancied to relish the step up to three miles in the 32red.com Novices' Handicap Chase at Haydock.

Jumping a great deal better than when beaten a long way over two miles at Windsor in November, Charlie Mann's charge landed a two and a half mile contest at Haydock in mid-December and could hardly have been more impressive when following up at Uttoxeter on New Year's Eve.

Tackling an extended two miles and six furlongs on the latter occasion, his jumping was a joy to behold and he absolutely toyed with the clear runner-up in the straight, eventually winning very cheekily by a neck.

Being raised 11lb in the weights might not be enough to prevent Another Native from completing his hat-trick and he remains of interest.
