Kong set for quick return

NO reasons have appeared for Kong’s disappointing performance in Saturday’s Vodafone Derby, and he could be set for a quick reappearance in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot at York next week.

Kong set for quick return

The colt finished a distant last of the 13 runners in the Epsom Classic, but trainer John Dunlop reports him to have been perfectly sound since.

The same can be said for the Arundel handler’s other Derby runner Unfurled, who looked in with a chance straightening for home but had to settle for seventh.

“I am pleased to say that they both seem to have come out of the race very well,” said Dunlop.

“I thought Unfurled ran a very creditable race and he’ll probably have a bit of a break now.

“Nothing has really come to light to explain Kong’s run.

“As there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with him I might just be tempted to run him at Royal Ascot at York.”
